Product Review

The Mini Magnetic PepperBall is 1/3 the size of its big brother, the famous PepperBall. It's also embedded with "whole-earth" magnets for sticking to metal surfaces. This fully functional metal pepper rasp is perfect for small spaces and mobile kitchens.

Amazon.com Review

The Chef'n Mini Magnetic PepperBall has an unusual, one-handed design unlike the typical hold-and-twist motion of most grinders. Two soft-grip handles squeeze together to activate the grinding mechanism. As a result, it takes less motion to grind the same amount of salt as it would with a conventional grinder. In addition, shaped like a bunny head with two big floppy ears, the whimsical ball livens up any table setting.

The body of the Mini Magnetic PepperBall is constructed of sturdy, clear plastic with "rabbit-ear" handles made of soft rubber grip pads. . A durable metal grinder mechanism is adjustable to five coarseness levels--a small knob on the underside turns to the right for coarse and the left for a finer grind. An easy-slide refill window on the side of the PepperBall makes replenishing the peppercorn supply a snap.

The Mini Magnetic PepperBall has a strong, built-in magnet for easy storage on refrigerators or other metal surfaces. This handy feature, plus the size of this grinder make it very portable. Chef'n also offers a matching Mini Magnetic Salt Ball. The Chef'n Mini Magnetic PepperBall comes filled with black peppercorns. It measures 3-3/4 inches tall by 2 inches wide. --Garland Withers

Though I've had this only about a month, it is starting to go. It puts shards of sharp plastic in the food. (From searching the net on this, I find that my experience is not unique, either.)

Do NOT buy.

Other better brands include Unicorn (recommended by a famous cooking magazine), Peugeot, Firth, and William Bounds.

This one makes too small and too fine a grind of pepper to be useful in cooking. You'll be cranking away on this thing for ten minutes before you get enough crushed pepper to flavor anything.

4.0 out of 5 stars mini-pepper ball, November 30, 2003

This little guy is great for popping on the table - easier to use and less left-over mess than a traditional pepper grinder. Being clear, it is easy to see when you need to refill. The magnet keeps it handy, letting it stick to the side of the fridge near the stove.I gave it four stars instead of five ONLY because of its size - it takes more squeezes to get the amount you want ground than the larger size, and the larger one is easier to squeeze the handles together. It's the new popular gadget in our kitchen!
