I compared this to a bunch of peppermills including my peugeot. It provides significantly more pepper grind per turn. I like lots of course ground pepper, so I haven't really tested how it does with finder grinds.

I've owned this mill for about two years now, along with a matching salt mill. The mill has held up very well to daily use. I usually have it set fairly coarse, but it does a fine grind as well - and both are easy to do, no excessive turns required. The acrylic has only one small nick on the outside, where a chef's knife fell on it. The carbon steel has NO rust at all on it, and I've used it over steam several times. I would NOT use this specific mill for salt. I bought the two as a matching set, and the salt mill looks identical on the outside, but the grinder itself is actually ceramic. The only downside I have is that the salt does cake on the black plastic "OLDE THOMPSON CERAMIC GRINDER" on the salt version but this is not a fault of the maker, just how finely-ground sea salt with some residual moisture will inevitably come out.

Unlike other pepper mills I've had, this one does the job, simply and with ease. The top screw adjusts easily from fine to coarse, and all is as you'd expect. The item looks exactly as it does in the photo on Amazaon's website. If you like the looks of this pepper mill, be assured that the workings of it are of high quality (a carbon steel mechanism behind some sort of sturdy black plastic retainer). As the mechanism is of carbon steel, you'll want to keep the pepper mill DRY because carbon steel can rust. So, it's a better idea NOT to use this mill over anything that is emitting lots of steam. The same would apply even more strongly to a salt grinder or shaker, naturally. Remember: turn the mill in only ONE direction, not back and forth.
