Orka Electric Salt and Pepper Grinder

Comment: I purchased four of these on the 4 for 3 program thinking I'd use salt, pepper and a couple of my favorite seasoning blends. I never got to the blends because the first two just didn't perform like I expected. Salt will, to a degree, grind fairly well. I usually use white peppercorns and maybe it's because they tend to be more smooth than black but they won't grind except on the coarsest setting. If I wanted 'cracked pepper,' because that's essentially what I get then, I'd just crack them up myself. I've tinkered with the grind size until I thought I'd wind the mechanizm right out of the thing and still nothing. If I tried to get a teaspoon of fine grind, I'd run the batteries down, it's that bad.

My nephew became the proud recipient of the two unopened ones. Hopefully he'll have better luck than I've had.

Comment: I first used this at someone's house on Thanksgiving and was impressed! I bought 3 for Christmas gifts and 1 for myself. Thankfully the receivers of the pepper mill all love them and they are functional. Mine does not work well. Peppercorns get easily stuck in the grinder and it has to constantly be taken apart.

Comment: I wanted to like this item. I bought two, one for salt and one for pepper. Unforunately neither of them would grind anything. I'd actually like to return them. Sorry.

Comment: I wouldn't recommend buying this one, but I don't know how well other brands work. Mine works ok if I install expensive alkaline batteries such as Duracell, but any others go dead after about 2 uses. When it operates, it seems like it doesn't have enough power to grind the peppercorns. Maybe mine is just not a good one, but it does work.

Comment: Purchased as a gift for the person that has everything. He loves it, say use it everyday.
