It is actually the 2nd one I have had. The first was a 8" and someone needed it worse than I. These are great for grinding pepper any coarseness! 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful: By sedonaman (Sedona, AZ United States) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Pepper Mill Imports Traditional Coffee/Spice Mill, Brass, 11" (Kitchen) Pros:
1. Heavy-duty; 2. Easy to grind peppercorns - good mechanical advantage from the crank; 3. The base doubles as a cup that catches stray pepper grindings and quantities if you need more than a little; 4. Holds a lot of peppercorns so it doesn't need refilling so often; 5. Very attractive finish. Con: This pepper mill needed some work to get it to function correctly. The unit I got was not adjustable for the size of grounds; it produced only a very fine grind. This was not because there was no adjustment, but a defect in manufacturing. The grinding teeth are on a cone that sits inside a tapered internal housing. This review is from: Pepper Mill Imports Traditional Coffee/Spice Mill, Brass, 11" (Kitchen) After having to replace a number of broken pepper mills, I was determined to find one that worked well and would stand heavy use since we love fresh ground pepper.
This pepper mill is great. It is attractive and does a nice job of grinding the pepper. Although it is tall, it is solid brass and doesn't tip very easily. I like the cup on the bottom that you can use to grind enough pepper to measure and add to a recipe. The only upkeep it will need is probably a little polishing on occasion, since the brass is not "coated". I know it may cost a little more but it is worth it in the long haul. |
