Before I buy anything, I do a lot of research. I spent well over four hours online and talked to two very good amateur chefs/retired cooks who owned seven and twelve different brands of pepper grinders and both recommended an Atlas pepper mill. Well worth ~$100, grinds exceptionally fine and very fast! Its quite heavy as well. Wasn't really easy to fill (used a funnel) but it holds so much pepper and you need so little when it grinds this fine it doesn't matter. Every time I use it I grin ear-to-ear.
American soldiers supposedly used this pepper mill in WWII to grind coffee. I believe it!

This is a sturdy, keep for a lifetime, works perfectly kitchen and dining room pepper grinder that is both lovely to see and hold, as well as, doing its job. Easy to fill and easy to work, with large storage of the peppercorns. You will hand this down to a family member. Had mine 20 years, no change in design, just gave one as a wedding gift. Timeless quality and appeal.

I've had many pepper mills over the years. Some worked very well, but none lasted. This one works better than any I have had before. It's construction would indicate that it will last a very long time. And it is a beautiful piece of machinery as well.
