Amazon.com Review

Peugeot has been pumping out peppermills since the mid 19th century, when the company first created its unique channeling and grinding mechanism, and the Bistro peppermill is one of its finest representatives. Constructed in a classic café shape with a natural finish, the mill features channeling grooves that line up and crack the peppercorns, and grinding grooves that perform the fine grinding process. The result is pepper ground finer than with other mills. In addition, Peugeot mills are more durable because the teeth in the grinding mechanism never lock together, resulting in less wear over their lifetime (and yours, as the company offers a lifetime guarantee on the mechanism). Users will also appreciate the dual grinding modes--if you crank the unit one direction, you receive a fine pepper grind, whereas the other direction produces a coarse grind. To fill, simply unscrew the top knob and add peppercorns. --Rivers Janssen

I did a lot of research on pepper mills and discovered a wide range of prices and wide variety of materials available. We had tried several acrylic models made by different manufacturers over the past few years and the same things kept happening -- cracks appearing, acrylic threads wearing out, etc. I decided it was time for an upgrade.I'm very happy with this Peugeot model. I could have spent a lot more money on a stainless steel pepper mills, but I like the warmth of wood. Another plus is the height of this mill -- it is less than 4 inches high and can be stored in our smaller cabinet spaces. Of course that also mean you have to refill it more often, but that is fine because refilling it with peppercorns is a breeze. The coarseness adjustment couldn't be simpler - turn the top screw clockwise for fine, counterclockwise for coarse. Cleaning? Just wipe the outside clean with a damp sponge. All in all a very good buy -- simple to use, sturdy, and a great price.

I've used this peppermill for about 25 years. It still works, but after almost daily use for a quarter of a century, I'm starting to look around for a replacement. Maybe I should just buy two...that should get me through this lifetime. All the other grinders are too big, unaesthetically proportioned, and expensive. This is a great value, too. Buy it for Christmas, wedding or housewarming gifts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple and Easy to Use, December 3, 2003

I have a small collection of pepper mills for some odd reason (I seem to have a collection of everything these days!) and this is one of the ones I have. I love the simple clean lines and the light colored wood. It looks nice displayed in my kitchen! It is also easy to use, you turn it clockwise to get a finer pepper, counter clockwise to get coarser pepper. It's a bit smaller than a lot of my other peppermills, but it doesn't get a lot of use - so it hasn't been a problem for me. It's also easy to fill up, so the size shouldn't be an issue. Another good thing about this pepper mill is how easy it is to clean. You can easily wipe it down with a damp cloth or sponge and voila! It's clean!
