We purchased these for our own use and had some reservations about them, at first. What a pleasant surprise! These work very well. Just tilt them over and they grind. Very nice that you can adjust the size of the grains. Another wonderful feature, no salt or pepper residue left behind where they were sitting. I really like these and highly recommend.

I am pleased with this set, altho' I bought it elsewhere at less cost and is no longer available there; if I needed to, I would buy them here at a higher price. They are so worth it. They are NOT a throwaway item like so many things are today. First of all, mine came with salt and pepper included, the batteries you must add, but you don't need to replace them often at all. I need to refill the salt more often than pepper, and it is easy to refill and works great. The bottom holds the batteries which allows this to have good balance, it's not top heavy. Another similar set I bought of another brand had the batteries on top, the seasonings on the bottom. It was always tipping over at the slightest touch. The grinding mechanism can be changed from fine to coarse, and the adjustments really do make a noticeable difference and is reliable each time you want to change it back and forth. This is my second set, and I love them. They do an excellent job and are easy to use, and easy to adjust the grind. Saves lots of hand motion on twisting.

Since they're plastic, they will chip around the top if dropped (thus my replacement set). But, they are not cheap plastic; they're very sturdy, just not on granite or tile drops.

They are a little tricky to fill. Be sure you only go to the red fill disk inside the mill. However, once filled they last a long time; I know, because I'm the one who always has to refill them, and we use a lot of salt and pepper.

To fill them you need to hold them upright and first loosen the bottom (don't remove, because the battery holder and the salt or pepper will come out). Once you loosen the bottom, then you can turn the mill upside down, remove the battery holder and fill it. Just reverse the process once it's filled.
