I bought one for my parents about 5 years ago. They use it several times a day and it's going strong. I recently bought one for myself. The shaft and piece that turns the shaft are metal so won't break (the whole reason I'm buying another different pepper mill). There's settings for coarse to fine pepper. Takes 4 AAA batteries which last a long time. Don't get cheap Chinese batteries and it'll work perfectly. Excellent product.

update: product broke after about a year. The internal gears on mine were plastic that stripped. My parent's is still working though at the 7 year mark.

I ordered this product because I wanted a grinder that was different than the twist and turn type, easy to use and functional. I tried it out the same day that I received it. I found it to be everything that a pepper grinder should be and more. It allowed me to adjust the size of the pepper granules quickly and easily. My son, who is 26, likes to cook and tries out all of my new kitchen gadgets when he visits, was impressed with this grinder as well. I have used this product extensively and have not had to change the batteries yet. I absolutely love the product and will be purchasing another one to use with sea salt and another one to give as a gift. In addition to the functionality of the product, you can not beat the price in comparison to some of the "higher end" products.

My Dad wanted a pepper mill he could use without pain to his joints that the manual mills created. He likes this product. It was a little difficult to insert the batteries however.
