Many of our authorities thought this 9" tall, contemporary black pepper mill was top notch- it met all our criteria: a comfortable grip, a grind that is easily adjustable, and a nut at the base that is independent of the loading ring in the mill's body--so there's no need to reset the grind after refilling. It holds over a cup of peppercorns that are easily added through the large hole on the side of the mill, and works very fast & efficiently, according to Cook's Illustrated, who includes it in their "Best" category. The grinding mechanism has nickel-plated heads that will maintain their cutting edges and won't rust. The Magnum Plus has a lifetime guarantee. Not battery-operated.

Summary: Best Ever 2010-06-29
Comment: If you love the taste of freshly ground peppercorns, you need this. I cannot believe everyone on the cooking channel does not have one of these. Easy to operate, simple to load and I love the fragrant smell of fresh pepper on my food all the way from scrambled eggs to steak.

Comment: I found that the pepper mill was easy to fill and ground a copius amount of pepper compared to the many other pepper mills I have tried. It's a keeper, although I wish I would have bought the smaller version so I could put it in my cupboard but it looks great out by the stove. Also mine said it was made in Italy, but it said nothing of a guarantee.

Summary: Over 5 years later, I still love it! 2010-06-12
Comment: Although this mill is currently unavailable on Amazon, the company's website shows that Unicorn is very much in business and still offering the Magnum Plus. I purchased mine through Amazon over 5 1/2 years ago, after going through several unsatisfactory mills. A few minutes ago, while in the kitchen refilling the mill's generous reservoir, I thought about how much we've enjoyed using it and what a good product it's been. I won't reiterate the features of this pepper mill; others, including Nina, have done a fine job of that. My only disagreement with Nina's review is a minor one: I don't object to the mill's looks. I've found its appearance, heft, and performance to be just what I want for daily use. This pepper mill is holding up well with regular use by lovers of fresh-ground pepper. If/when we have to replace it, I'd definitely buy this one again, or, if unavailable, another similar mill made by Unicorn.

Comment: This is easily the best pepper mill I have used, however, when your hands are wet, the top is slippery. I glued a thin piece of rubber on it to get a better grip. I would recommend that Unicorn redesign the top.

Summary: Awesome Pepper Grinder 2010-05-27
Comment: The best one we have owned, although rather large. (We have the smaller version too.) The only downside is the fact that it is plastic -- not very elegant for a dinner party etc.
