Product Review

Exacting chefs want and need complete control over the seasoning of their dishes - and Vic Firth Gourmet mills give them precise control through a patented Lock and Grind grinding system. This unique mechanism ensures perfect consistency - whether fine grinds for fish, medium grinds for gravies or coarse grinds for meats. Grinding is performed in a two-step process: first the peppercorns are crushed to release their natural oils and flavors; next, they are ground to the chosen consistency for perfect results every time. This upside down mill eliminates the mess that traditional pepper mills leave behind. With the Vic Firth Columbia mill, you’ll have complete control – to create the perfect grind and have it where you want it – in your food – and not on your table and countertops. All Vic Firth mills feature pop-out mechanisms for easy cleaning. All Vic Firth wood products are handcrafted in Newport, Maine and carry a lifetime guarantee. Outstanding quality, unique design - the last mill that you’ll ever need. 6-inch tall. Mahogany

One of the best pepper mills I've seen, real quality wood and craftsmanship, the bottom shown in the picture is actually the top, you grind the pepper and then stand it upside down, real easy to fill.. it even came with a plastic funnel.

A couple of turns and the grind is coarse, you feel that it's a solid piece when grinding, the mechanism is steel and for the salt mill it's plastic.

It has the Vic Firth name engraved on it...real nice.

I searched high & low for cool mills; not just for pepper but for salt too & I finally settled on these & I have no regrets! The fact they are upside down was big deciding factor b.c I'm quite clean. The design is sleek & will look nice with our plates & more to come as I'm sure these will out last our dishes.

I read about the brand on their site & on a few other sites & this company definitely
seems reliable as they specialize in mills. I havent used my salt mill yet b.c I dont have any salt rocks but the pepper mill is great & I love how the grind is easily adjusted. It's also pretty easy to refill. I was actually surprised at how easy it is to actually grind the pepper, as in literally turning the knob. I've used some before that are a bit of a workout if you want a decent amount of pepper but this is super smooth.

I bought the black for pepper & the lighter wood color for salt. This company has a TON of designs so check out their options & happy cooking.

Once you try a pepper mill like this one, that stores "upside down," you'll never go back to a regular pepper mill again. No more pepper all over the kitchen counter or in the cabinet. This grinder works well, is beautiful, and is super sturdy. I've used it every day since I got it, and I've never been disappointed.
