I love it when something is better than I imagined. I never knew how great one could be until I got this Vic Firth pepper mill. I've probably bought 8-10 pepper mills, none of which have stood the tests of time or expectations. First of all, I can't believe how much control I have over the grind. I had 3 other pepper mills in use when I got this new one. One gave me just the right fine grind, another medium and the third, just the right coarse grind because I've never found one that could do it all consistently. (I've even used a coffee grinder out of frustration in getting a great coarse grind). This one does it all. And, it's gorgeous. Very classic look, beautiful wood, and just feels great in my hands. It was so easy to fill up (even came with a little funnel to help with that operation). I've had pepper grinders and shakers that were such a pain to refill, they were practically disposable. I've picked a winner! I've never seen or had a pepper mill that works as well as this does. It's amazing at any grind. It was such a kick, I ground about 1/2 cup to fill a salt box.

The bonus is that it looks great and is solid as a rock and made in the USA.

If you use a lot of pepper, consider the larger one. This is more than enough for our use but because they keep the mill heavy an don't hollow it completely out, it doens't hold as many pepper corns ad it appears. Again, for most people the 6" mill is plenty big for fresh pepper.

I'd highly recommend Vic Firth mills.

I was hesitant about buying this pepper mill at first, but it is well worth the price! It is well made, and operates so smoothly. Hands down, best mill I've used.
