We live in Maine, so a kitschy lighthouse shaped mill is a cute addition to our kitchen. That it is a Maine based company definitely tipped the scales in favor of a Vic Firth Model. It may not be ergonomically ideal for grabbing and grinding, a door-knob shaped top may be a better choice, but the mechanism is great, guaranteed for life.
It has a perfect device for selecting grind fine-ness and it stays put. Makes pepper the perfect size and spews the magic generously; plus it is easy to fill. Glossy finish repels stains.
Love it, which is a good thing as I hope to have it for the rest of my days.

This is by far the finest pepper mill I have owned. Easy grinding, comfortable to handle, visually appealing and solid. Very nice product!
Works great - high quality wood,

We have a lot of pepper mills and none of them work as well as this one. We got the maple wood mill and the grinding mechanism is very solid. We like it so much we may order a couple more, and then paint them different colors (in lighthouse motif, of course) to reflect what kind of pepper is inside. (Mostly black for black peppercorns, white accents for white peppercorns, and white/black/red for the melange peppercorns. These are the only 3 kinds of pepper we use.)
