Product Review

Vic Firth teamed up with popular chef Mario Batali to design the simple and stylish series of "Mario" pepper and salt mills. Exacting chefs want and need complete control over the seasoning of their dishes - and Vic Firth Gourmet mills give them pricise control through a patented "Lock & Grind" grinding system. This unique mechanism ensures perfect consistency - whether fine grinds for fish, medium grinds for gravies or coarse grinds for meats. Grinding is performed in a two-step process: first the peppercorns are crushed to release their natural oils and flavors; next, they are ground to the chosen consistency for perfect results every time. And all mills feature pop-out mechanisms for easy cleaning.

I'm a big pepper fan and discovered Vic's peppermills a couple years back. While away on family vacation my sister-in-law enjoyed using my smaller federal style mill (yes, I love my Firth mill so much I took it on vacation!). Since she's treated us to so many amazing meals over the years (she's essentially a gourmet cook, with a gorgeous high end kitchen at home) I offerred to send her a Firth mill. We decided on this Batali signature mill, primarily because of it's size and color. Well... as expected, she ABSOLUTELY loves it. Says it's BY FAR the best she's ever used. Very impressed with how well the locking function of the grinding mechanism works. And says the color works perfectly. Leave it to a Mainer to put out such a top-notch product...

We had a crappy little red wooden pepper mill and finally upgraded to this Vic Firth. The grinding action is great..the locking nut means that when you choose a fineness it actually stays at that level while you grind. The color is beautiful (red) and I get compliments on it all the time. Well worth the price (especially the amazon price).

This is a great peppermill. I wished I had went with the 12" one, as this one doesn't seem to hold much pepper.
