Product Review

William Bounds 5-inch Bamboo Chef Pepper Mill. The William Bounds milling mechanism (the grinder) works in a way that crushes rather than grinds the peppercorns. As a result, the mechanism will never jam or freeze up, and because metal is not grinding on metal ¿ as with other mills ¿ the William Bounds mechanism will never wear out. These mills are handcrafted from bamboo. A grass bamboo is one of the worlds most renewable resources.

I was completely disappointed in the performance of this pepper mill. I was trusting of the brand, but unimpressed with it. As pepper mills go, I found it to be boring. The grind was supposed to be varied and I was unable to get anything but a table fine grind. I guess I was spoiled by my Trudeau Evolution- a far superior mill!

I picked up two of these for xmas gifts and the first review on Amazon said it didn't work. Upon filling them up, mine didn't work either! Well I thought it didn't, but if you keep tightening the screw up after you receive some resistance, it pulls the center cone up and than it actually worked quite well.

Five inches is a bit short, but maybe that's because I'm used to my 12" tall mill...

I absolutely love these grinders! I went searching for them. My father has some and I love the way it tightens "backward". If you tighten the screw clockwise, it lifts the burr grinder away from the stationary ring. Getting you a coarser grind. This means as I use it and the screw loosens it drops the burr grinder and I end up with a finer grind. possibly finer than I wanted. Easily remedied! With a couple of twists, I have coarse pepper! I hate it when a grinder loosens as I am using it and I end up with cracked peppercorns in my lovely Alfredo sauce. Ack! So, flip the thing over and watch the grinder as you "tighten" it. More space means bigger pepper! Lovely rubbed onto a steak! The thing that would make them better? If I could see through them! I have 5 different kinds of peppercorns separated into their own grinders. Now, which of you is the green pepper.........hmmm...
